India has a major problem with child labor .People in India have a really tough time making money, so they become people who use children. India suffers from much poverty which leads to desperate measures like child trafficking. Some people use children to get money by being beggars. Like it was in the movie the children with disabilities go to the coroners of streets and sing song to get money from people walking around. If kids ran away or was killed they would find more kids in India towns disable most of them. Also they would make the children work until they could not work anymore due to their health. There are actually laws that have to be followed that say that kids over 14 can break the law so they can make money. These gangsters literally owned these children like they were some sort of object and possession. The reason why most of the children stayed is because most of the children had lost their parents and close friends in the Bombay riots. These gangsters would act like their friends by giving persons good meals, drinks, and a place to stay. These children did not know what to think and they were fooled and sometimes hurt, physically. I know that if I was part of this horrible situation I would run away just like Jamal and Salem. Hopefully things like this have changed over the years in India and organization like UNICEF are trying to keep away all of these gangsters that are taking these kids chances of being successful human beings and making them into gangsters of their own by treating them this way.
